What hiring managers look for

Executives hire assistants they can trust with their time and their confidential information. A strong executive assistant resume shows who you supported, how you protected their time and the high-stakes work you ran, like board meetings and events.

This example shows an assistant with eight years supporting senior leaders in finance and tech. The sidebar layout keeps contact details, skills and languages in view, and each bullet shows the scale of the work. Chief of staff and senior assistant roles can build on the same structure.

Tips for writing an executive assistant resume

  1. 1

    Say who you support

The executive's title, the size of the company and the number of people you support tell a reader your level right away.

  2. 2

Show how you save the executive's time

Screening requests, handling things directly and protecting focus time are the heart of the job. Describe them with numbers.

  3. 3

    Highlight board and event work

Board meetings, offsites and investor events are high stakes. Give the size and the result.

  4. 4

    Name your tools

Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Concur, Zoom, Asana or Slack: list what you use, especially if the posting names it.

What's the difference between an administrative and an executive assistant resume?

An executive assistant resume shows support for one or a few senior leaders and the judgment that comes with it: setting priorities, handling confidential information and acting on the executive's behalf. An administrative assistant resume shows support for a team or an office.

Should I name the executive I supported?

Use their title, not their name: "Executive assistant to the CEO" is enough. It stays discreet and still shows your level.

Is the CAP certification worth listing?

Yes, if you have it. The Certified Administrative Professional (CAP) from IAAP shows formal training. List it with the year, and keep your experience as the main proof.

Can I use this executive assistant resume example as my own?

Use it as a model for the structure and the wording, then fill it with your own experience and numbers. Build yours in the same Executive template, or switch to another design at any time without losing your content.
